November is one of the best-value months to visit Oahu. Days are still warm, with typical highs in the low 80s °F in Honolulu, and the ocean is comfortable for swimming on the south shore. Showers become more frequent, especially on the windward side, but they usually pass quickly. Crowds and prices stay moderate until Thanksgiving week. You also get two winter bonuses: the first humpback whales of the season and the start of big-wave season on the North Shore.
Here’s what to expect, week by week, and what’s on in November 2026.

What is the weather like in Oahu in November?
November is the start of the cooler, wetter half of the Hawaiian year, which Hawaiians call hoʻoilo. On Oahu, that mostly means a little more cloud and more passing showers, not cold weather.
Temperature. Honolulu’s long-term daily averages put the typical high at about 84°F on November 1 and about 81°F by November 30. Evenings are mild. A light layer is handy for breezy nights and air-conditioned restaurants.
Rain. Showers pick up compared with summer, but most last minutes rather than hours. The windward side, from Kailua up to Kahuku, and the mountains catch more rain than Waikiki and the leeward coast. If it’s raining where you are, it’s often dry somewhere else on the island. One upside: rain on the Koʻolau mountains means waterfalls on the cliffs and a good chance of rainbows.
Daylight. Days are shorter. The sun sets around 5:50 p.m., so plan beach time and sightseeing for the morning and early afternoon.
Hurricane season officially runs until November 30, but storms affecting Oahu late in the season are uncommon. As always, travel insurance is sensible.
A time-zone change to plan around
Hawaii doesn’t use daylight saving time. When the mainland sets its clocks back on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the gap between Hawaii and the mainland grows by an hour: Honolulu becomes 2 hours behind the West Coast and 5 hours behind the East Coast. If you have calls or connections booked, recheck the times.
Crowds and prices in November
For most of the month, November is a shoulder-season sweet spot. Summer families have gone home and the winter holiday rush hasn’t started.
- November 1 to about November 20: generally the quietest stretch, with good availability for hotels, tours and restaurants.
- Veterans Day, Wednesday November 11: a federal holiday. Expect some local crowds at beaches and attractions, but it isn’t a long weekend this year.
- Thanksgiving week (Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, 2026): one of the busiest travel weeks of the year. Flights and hotels cost more, and popular reservations go fast.
If your dates are flexible, the first three weeks of November give the best balance of weather, price and space.
November is a good month for the island loop. With sunrise around 6:40 a.m., our first pickup at 6:50 a.m. starts the day in fresh morning light, and you’re back in Waikiki in the late afternoon. The $49 Promo Full-Day Loop uses code FANTASY50. See current deals
What is on in Oahu in November 2026?
Event dates change from year to year, so check each official site before you plan around one.
- Hawaiʻi International Film Festival. The festival’s Oahu screenings run from late October into early November, with neighbor-island screenings continuing to mid-November. It’s a chance to see films from Hawaii, Asia and the Pacific that rarely reach mainland cinemas.
- Hawaii Food & Wine Festival. The 2026 festival moves across three islands from mid-October to November 8, finishing with the Oahu events from November 5 to 8. Events are ticketed separately and the big dinners sell out.
- Veterans Day, November 11. Pearl Harbor and other memorials are especially meaningful to visit around this date. Reserve USS Arizona Memorial tickets well ahead.
- The start of big-wave season. Swells begin reaching the North Shore, and watching expert surfers from the sand at Waimea Bay, Pipeline or Sunset Beach becomes a highlight. Read our guide to the North Shore in winter before you go.
- The first whales. NOAA’s humpback whale sanctuary says whales can be seen around Hawaii from November through April. Early in the season sightings are less frequent, so treat any you see in November as a bonus. Our whale watching season guide has the details.
- Thanksgiving. Many restaurants and hotels offer holiday menus. Book ahead if you want a special meal.
Is November a good time to visit Oahu?
Yes, for most travelers. November gives you:
- Warm weather for the beach and sightseeing.
- Lower prices than peak winter, outside Thanksgiving week.
- Two seasons in one trip: the first whales and the first big surf, while the south shore stays calm enough to swim.
The trade-offs are more showers, shorter days and a North Shore that’s for watching rather than swimming on big-surf days. For a full comparison of every month, see our month-by-month guide to the best time to visit Oahu.
